Not About Massage!! Well kind’a…

For those of you who don’t know - due to a crazy accident I was in - my partner and I have a new website. It’s Scarbook.com. It’s a venue for people to tell their stories about how they hurt themselves. It isn’t for everyone but check it out.  It is also a way to raise money for Camp Phoenix, a camp for severely burned children. Check out our advertisers. That will be helpful.

We are throwing ScarBash on October 24th at the Raw Space, a brand new arts and entertainment center in Ellensburg. Due to limited space, it’s an invitation only event. A way to get an invitation though is to upload a photo of your scar and tell your story. There will be fun had by around 300 of our closest friends.

The vague connection to massage is the phenomenal way massage is able to break down scar tissue and increase the flexibility of the injured area.

Recent Graduate is Rockin’…

Jessica Jones who graduated in November is on fire right now. She has been  has been doing about 14 massages a week. That is phenomenal for someone who has been out of massage school for only 5 months. On top of that she is getting her esthetics education at Bluestone so she will soon have two licenses to serve her guests. Keep up this pace and you won’t be able to sleep in again. Well maybe, you’ll be able to sleep in more often with all that cash in the bank. The luxury of choosing where you sleep in is always sweet too. Paris or the Tuscany region are pretty nice I hear.

Congratulations for taking your education and running with it.

…one of the best choices I have made…

Hi.  My name is Trevor Rockney and I am a current student at the
Barlen Institute of Massage.  I have a background education in
Kinesiology from Washington State University.  Upon graduating, I felt
a draw towards physical therapy and began my studies in that
direction.  After a month in PT school and realizing first hand this
was something I did not want to spend my life doing, I really began
searching myself for what appealed to me.  I knew I wanted a career in
a health care field and I knew I wanted to be able to work hands on
with people.   During my time in PT school we did a three hour class
on the basics of massage.  I really reflected on that and I felt
compelled to take my life in that direction.  As it turns out, this
has been one of the best choices I have made in my life.
I browsed for the type of education that I wanted to receive and I
looked for a program that would suit my learning style best.  The
criteria I was looking for included a small class size, hands on
experience, and a step away from the traditional learning environment.
I came across BIOM through my searching and it offered me exactly
what I was looking for in the way of an education.
As I reflect today on my studies at BIOM I could not be happier with
the choice I have made.  I expected to get a hands on experience and
learn about the field of massage. So far I have received not only what
I had expected but more. I have been accruing the knowledge base to
apply what I have learned into any avenue I want to pursue in the
field of massage be it working for someone else, owing my own
business, or being an independent contractor.  Through an openness and
yet independent approach to learning, BIOM has literally provided me
with all the resources I need to be successful and enjoy what I do
with my life professionally.
On a final note I just want to say that the instructors at BIOM are
not only knowledgeable, but are happy to share that knowledge with the
students. Through the mere five months I have been a student at BIOM I
really cannot say enough about the education I have received so far
and the impact it has had on my life.  So I say, if anyone is
interested in a great education and want to learn from very
knowledgeable and caring instructors, than you may want to consider
BIOM.

Thanks Trevor for taking the time

Possible Oddities in the Schedule…

A couple of classes to be aware of next month are:

May 7 - Change Tek

May 21 - MTA   This week will be one of the few weeks that we have Kines and then 3 days of MTA in a row. Memorial Day weekend starts that week and for BIOM continues until -

May 27 - MTA   HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO VACATION EXTENSION

Language As A Healing Tool

Do to a scheduling error not everyone made it to Change Tek. Thanks to you who did. A reminder - please check the online schedule.

We played with the idea that it is our responsibility as LMPs to address what appears to our clients as their problem in need of being fixed. An alternative view is to recognize that our client is experiencing what they are and that we view them as whole and perfect at the same time. The outcome of an experiment showed scientists found that when light was observed with the intent of it being seen as a beam it behaved as a beam. When they observed the light with the intent of it being a particle, it behaved as a particle. The Quantum Theory is that the observer affects the observed. From that point of view when we view our clients as being whole, it affects our clients. Since there are two observers - the client and the LMP - it behooves the LMP to challenge the perception of the client by shifting their observation of their problem. This can be done with language in conjunction with bodywork.

We practiced using the following:

  • Structured Questions
  • Words of Time
  • Pacing Current Experience
  • Double Binds
  • Embedded Commands
  • Quotes
  • Tag Questions

You all did a great job. I don’t know if you will  practice right away or in a day or two but when you do you will  make dramatic changes in your clients and influence people in no time, won’t you?

Thanks for playing!

Happiness - We Graduated

Last night was 2008 Graduation.

We had around 100 participants in the celebration. Friends, family, loved ones, filled the room. It was a lot of fun. I’m sure the students are relieved and some are wondering what they will do with all the free time.

Dakota Cafe, a local restaurant that everyone has to go to at least once in their lives, catering the event. The food was delicious. Kelly & Mitch, the owners and their catering staff, Ashley and Jenna were fantastic. Everything went off without a hitch. Thanks again to the Dakota.

Inspirations Studio filmed the entire event including  after graduation comments from several students. I’m eager to hear what they said. Of course the students and staff will get a copy of the DVD. We’ll post bits of it on the blog also. Maybe on our main site also.

We all have enjoyed this year. This was truly a remarkable group of people. I’m honored to know them.
